VenaSeal™ Q & A

What is the VenaSeal™ Closure System?

Nearly 25% of Americans suffer from varicose veins.  While some people have only cosmetic problems, others experience pain, swelling, throbbing, and itching, among other symptoms.  VenaSeal™ is one of the newest nonsurgical treatments for varicose veins.

What happens during a VenaSeal™ procedure?

Dr. Barnett uses a minimal amount of local anesthetic to numb the skin. He then passes a small catheter into the vein to be treated. Next, a medical grade adhesive is introduced into the vein, which is designed to permanently seal that vein. Once the procedure is completed, the blood from the treated vein immediately reroutes to nearby healthy ones.

What can I expect after a VenaSeal™ procedure?

Most people experience few side effects and can return to work or normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, you should skip the gym or any heavy lifting until you get the 'green light' from Dr. Barnett.

Normally, compression stockings are not needed after this procedure.

How effective is VenaSeal™ vein treatment?

In clinical trials, 96.8% of veins remain closed 12 months after a VenaSeal™ vein treatment.  Side effects are uncommon. Sometimes, some minor post-procedure inflammation of the vein is reported.
